About This Session
Scrum Lab delivers practical, hands-on rugby union scrum coaching focused on safe, technically correct body shape. This session teaches players strong body shape, clear roles, and simple cues they can apply immediately in games.
Our structured approach breaks down the complexity of scrummaging into manageable, progressive steps. Players will gain confidence in their positioning, understand their individual responsibilities within the pack, and develop the muscle memory needed for consistent performance.
Every drill is designed with safety as the foundation, building proper technique before introducing any contact intensity. Players leave with actionable skills they can implement in their very next match, backed by a deeper understanding of scrum mechanics and laws.

Who This Session Is For?
This clinic is specifically designed for junior forwards and developing players aged 11–16 who want to build a solid foundation in scrum technique. Whether you're new to the front row or looking to refine your existing skills, this session provides the technical knowledge and practical experience you need.
Suitable for both club and school players, Scrum Lab welcomes participants at all skill levels within the age range. Players who struggle with confidence at scrum time will gain reassurance through proper technique. Those already comfortable will discover refinements that elevate their performance.
Parents can be confident their children are learning from qualified coaches who prioritise safety, proper progression, and building competence before intensity. Every player receives individual attention and feedback tailored to their current ability level.
How the Session Works
Warm-Up & Movement Preparation
We begin with dynamic stretching and movement patterns specific to scrummaging. This prepares muscles, activates stabilisers, and reduces injury risk whilst establishing the body positions we'll use throughout the session.
Technique Drills with Coach Feedback
Players work through progressive drills focusing on individual technique. Coaches provide immediate, specific feedback on body shape, binding, and positioning. Small group work ensures every player receives personal attention.
Live Scrum Reps & Pack Work
Apply learned techniques in controlled live scrum situations. Gradually build intensity as technique solidifies. Players experience realistic pack work whilst coaches monitor safety and reinforce correct habits under pressure.
Safety First

Our Safety Commitment
All coaching follows safe progressions with controlled repetitions. Technique and body position are established before intensity increases.
At Scrum Lab, safety isn't an afterthought—it's the foundation of everything we teach. Every drill follows a carefully structured progression that prioritises proper technique over power or speed. Players learn correct body mechanics in static positions before we introduce any movement or contact.
Our coaches monitor each player's form continuously, making immediate corrections to prevent the development of unsafe habits. Intensity is increased only when technique is consistently demonstrated, and we maintain strict coach-to-player ratios to ensure no one is overlooked.
We teach players to recognise their own limitations and communicate clearly with coaches and teammates. Understanding when to pause, reset, or ask for clarification is as important as physical technique. This approach builds not just skilled players, but responsible ones who carry these safety principles into every match and training session.
